Stardew Valley Romance Routes Ranked by Queer Vibes
Stardew Valley lets you romance any eligible bachelor or bachelorette regardless of your character’s gender, which is one of the best decisions any game developer has ever made. But not all romance routes are created equal. Here is an honest ranking of who has the most queer energy, for science.
Leah: The Sapphic Dream
Leah is a sculptor living alone in the woods who is trying to make her art work despite pressure from her ex and general doubt. Her heart events deal with artistic integrity, a toxic past relationship, and the courage to commit to who you want to be. If you have ever dated an artist or been an artist or thought about becoming an artist and moving to the woods, Leah’s route will make you feel extremely seen. Her eight-heart event with a female farmer is slightly different from the male version and the whole arc has energy that reads as specifically sapphic. She is, objectively, a good choice.
Emily: The Crystal Witch
Emily works at the saloon, makes her own clothes, and has conversations with gems. She is spiritual without being annoying about it and her heart events include a shared dream sequence that is genuinely one of the more unusual romantic scenes in the game. She gives main character energy in a town full of supporting characters. Her interest in fashion and her unapologetic weirdness make her route feel like romancing someone who has already fully accepted themselves, which is a specific kind of attractive.
Sebastian: The Motorcycle Bisexual
Sebastian lives in the basement, programs, smokes, and rides a motorcycle. He has the exact vibe of every queer kid who moved to a small town against their will and is waiting to escape. His heart events are about feeling misunderstood by his family and finding one person who actually sees him. The energy of his route is deeply relatable for anyone who has ever felt like the odd one out in their hometown. He deserves the life the player can give him.
Sam: The Supportive Band Guy
Sam is sunny and enthusiastic and in a band with Sebastian and Abigail. His route is lighter and sweeter than some of the others. He is the option for when you want warmth without the angst. His love of music and his easy-going nature give his route a breezy energy. Not the most dramatically interesting route but genuinely pleasant to play through.
Abigail: The Chaotic Purple-Haired Adventurer
Abigail dyes her hair, eats rocks, and has a complicated relationship with her father who insists she gets the purple from a grandmother he never met. Her heart events deal with her desire for adventure and her frustration with being understood on other people’s terms. She is a clear fan favorite and her energy is chaotic in the best way. One of the routes that rewards playing the full game because her arc connects to the deeper lore.
Honorable Mentions
Harvey is a sweet nervous doctor who listens to radio shows about planes. Penny deals with a difficult home situation with quiet dignity. Robin builds things and has her whole life together in a way that is inspiring. Haley has a full character arc that subverts her first impression entirely. Every route has something in it. The game is generous like that.
Pick your farmer, pick your vibe, and go water your crops. The valley is waiting.
